Rochon has the father of Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She was born in Torrance, Los Angeles, to Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She is a 1982 graduate from Cerritos High School in Cerritos, California. In 1986, she graduated with honors from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in which she obtained a bachelor's in broadcast journalism, with minors in sociology and theatre. Ullerup was seen as Julia Brynn for the first time on Battlestar Galactica: The Remake in 2006 on the Sci Fi Channel. The character she played, Ashley Magnus, was written out of Sanctuary's first and second seasons. Fans were enraged by the departure of her character, and many were hoping to see her come back for future seasons. It ended 2012 but not before an intense debate. Ullerup played Bree O'Brien, in Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup was the character Maggie Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact, the movie that chronicles the disaster of 2015.
